Wow! You have no idea how much I could relate via my son's eyes to what Matthew said about high school and making his faith his own, not his parents. My son started his freshman year in HS today and I see so much of what Matthew described himself as in my son. He is a jock, lives for sports and is ok with being a Christian but hasn't had to really stand up for what he believes in yet. I know he will face this in HS and I hope he will stand up for his beliefs. He is a very good and kind person, but is still in the stage of "not cool" to be a Christian. I had the opportunity to meet a guy I went to elementary school with and his wife and daughter this weekend. It has been 30 years since I saw him. His daughter, also a freshman in Great Falls, MT initiated a conversation with my son regarding gays. She thinks it is ok, no problem. As a matter of fact, we heard many times that they all think this way...an element of today's society, which I really disagree in the sentiment of, "It's ok, there's nothing wrong with it." My son was challenged by that and thankfully stood up for what he believes in. I was so proud! She asked him, "What makes you so sure that it is wrong?" He answered her the same way, "What makes you so sure it isn't wrong!" She said, she had no answer. Our answer is clear in the bible, but he didn't go there. He made his point. He still isn't "saved" but it gave me great hope that he will be some day. Thanks for sharing this interview. I am going to have my son listen to it. It really encouraged me that there IS life after sports and maturity will come. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing. God's word says: "If you trains up a child int he way he should go, when he's old he will not depart from it."
Your teaching is sinking in :)I hope you can find some encouragement in that!
